What Are Cemented Carbide Blanks?

Types of Blanks

Material Grades

Our blanks are available in fine-grain, medium-grain, and coarse-grain grades. Cobalt content ranges from 6% to 15%, balancing hardness and toughness for different applications. Special grades are available on request.

Manufacturing Process

Cemented carbide blanks are produced by mixing tungsten carbide powder with cobalt binder, pressing into dies, and sintering in vacuum furnaces. The sintered blanks are then sized, chamfered, and inspected before delivery.

Tolerances

As-sintered blanks typically include grinding allowances of 0.3 to 0.5 millimeters per side. Semi-finished and precision ground blanks can be supplied to tighter tolerances to reduce final machining time.

Applications

Carbide blanks are used to manufacture cutting tools, dies, punches, nozzles, seal rings, wear pads, and gauge components. They are essential in metalworking, automotive, aerospace, mining, and oil and gas industries.
