Tungsten Carbide Die
What Are Tungsten Carbide Dies?
Tungsten carbide dies are precision tooling components used for drawing, extruding, heading, and forming wire, rod, tube, and metal parts. Made from cemented tungsten carbide, these dies deliver superior wear life and surface finish compared to traditional steel dies.
Renyuan Mould supplies a wide range of carbide dies for wire drawing, bar drawing, tube drawing, cold heading, and extrusion applications, engineered for high-volume production.
Why Choose Carbide Dies?
Carbide dies offer exceptional hardness ranging from 86 to 92 HRA, outstanding abrasion resistance, and high compressive strength. They maintain precise dimensions and polished surfaces over millions of parts, reducing die change frequency and improving production efficiency.
The material also provides excellent thermal stability and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for drawing ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Types of Carbide Dies
We produce wire drawing dies, bar drawing dies, tube drawing dies, cold heading dies, extrusion dies, swaging dies, and custom-shaped dies. Each die is manufactured to the customer's specific part geometry and production requirements.
Die geometries include single-pass and multi-pass designs with natural, step, or angle entry profiles.
Die Material Grades
Fine-grain carbide grades are used for fine wire drawing and precision finishing. Medium-grain grades provide a balance for general drawing operations. Coarse-grain grades are preferred for heading and severe impact applications.
We can also provide nickel-bonded grades for corrosion resistance and titanium-containing grades for special applications.
Manufacturing Process
Carbide dies are pressed from powder, sintered in vacuum furnaces, then precision machined through cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, lapping, and polishing. Die bores are finished to exact dimensions with mirror-like surfaces for optimal material flow.
Tolerances and Surface Finish
Die bore tolerances can be held to plus or minus 0.002 millimeters. Surface roughness inside the die can reach Ra 0.02 to 0.1 depending on the application, ensuring smooth material passage and excellent surface quality on finished parts.
Applications
Carbide dies are widely used in steel wire production, copper and aluminum wire drawing, fastener manufacturing, automotive tube production, musical instrument string making, and welding wire production. They are essential in any process requiring long die life and consistent part dimensions.
Custom Die Solutions
For non-standard applications, Renyuan Mould offers custom die design based on customer drawings, samples, or material specifications. Our team assists with die profile optimization, grade selection, and entry angle design to maximize die life and surface quality.
Quality and Delivery
Each carbide die undergoes dimensional inspection, hardness testing, and surface quality verification before shipment. Dies are protected with anti-rust coating and packed securely. We deliver worldwide within two to four weeks.
