What Is Tungsten Carbide Plate?

Properties of Carbide Plates

Tungsten carbide plates provide hardness from 86 to 93 HRA, high compressive strength, and excellent abrasion resistance. They maintain flatness and dimensional stability under heavy loads and elevated temperatures.

The material also offers good corrosion resistance and low thermal expansion compared to tool steels.

Available Sizes and Grades

We supply carbide plates in various thicknesses, widths, and lengths. Standard plates are available as-stocked, and custom dimensions can be produced to order. Fine-grain grades are used for precision cutting, while medium and coarse-grain grades suit wear parts and stamping applications.

Plates can be supplied as-sintered, semi-finished, or precision ground on all sides.

Manufacturing Process

Carbide plates are produced by pressing tungsten carbide powder into flat compacts, sintering in vacuum furnaces, and then grinding to final thickness and flatness. Both surfaces can be lapped or polished for applications requiring high flatness.

Tolerances and Surface Finish

Thickness tolerances of plus or minus 0.01 millimeters are achievable on ground plates. Flatness can be held to 0.005 millimeters per 100 millimeters. Surfaces can be supplied ground, lapped, or polished to Ra 0.1 or better.
