Key Properties of Carbide Punches

Tungsten carbide punches deliver hardness from 88 to 92 HRA, combined with high compressive strength and excellent wear resistance. They maintain sharp cutting edges under high-speed stamping and can withstand repeated impacts without chipping or deforming.

The material also provides low thermal expansion and good corrosion resistance, making carbide punches suitable for use with stainless steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, and hardened materials.

Types of Carbide Punches

Manufacturing Process

Carbide punches are produced by pressing tungsten carbide powder into green compacts, sintering at high temperature, and then finish grinding to final dimensions. Cylindrical grinding, surface grinding, internal grinding, and lapping are used to achieve precise diameters, lengths, and surface finishes.

Each punch is deburred, chamfered, and inspected before shipment to ensure no sharp edges or surface defects.

Tolerances and Surface Finish

Dimensional tolerances of plus or minus 0.002 millimeters are achievable on punch diameters. Surface roughness can be held to Ra 0.2 or better on critical working surfaces. Concentricity and straightness are controlled during the grinding process.
